Tom Rooney: No Salaries for Congress if Debt Ceiling Reached

Florida Republican Congressman Tom Rooney is backing an idea to stop congressional salaries if the federal debt ceiling stalemate leads to a default.

I remain hopeful that we can reach an agreement that will prevent a default, cut spending significantly and implement serious reforms to ensure that we dont face a debt crisis like this in the future, said Rooney, who is co-sponsoring a bill which would freeze congressional pay and not allow it to be backdated if a default occurred. Congress needs to do its job, but if Aug. 3 rolls around and theres still no deal, then we absolutely should not get paid.
