Tom Rooney: Higher FBI Budget Will Help Against Terrorism

From his perch as the chairman of the U.S. House Emerging Threats Subcommittee, U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney, R-Fla., said on Thursday that the Commerce, Justice and Science (CJS) Appropriations bill will help keep America safer as it adds more than $163 million to the FBI budget.

“With terrorist groups like the Islamic State increasingly using social media and other methods to recruit new members and spread their message of violent extremism, we must be even more vigilant in our efforts to track and address these growing threats,” Rooney said. “This bill makes sure that our counterterrorism and intelligence communities have the tools they need to keep our country safe from a range of threats, from domestic radicalization to cyberterrorism.”

Rooney also added the bill will help reform the criminal justice system.

“Our appropriations bill will help begin the process of addressing criminal justice reform, including improvements to community safety, support for law enforcement, and efforts to reduce crime, recidivism, and unnecessary incarceration,” Rooney said.
