On Monday, Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney cheered the news that the U.S. Department of Defense was pulling the plug on adding an extra engine to the F-35 fighter plane.
The Pentagons termination of the extra engine contract should finally put an end to this unnecessary, wasteful project, said Rooney who had led the fight against the extra engine, arguing it would cost taxpayers around $3 billion. The Pentagon has said repeatedly that they do not want or need the extra engine, and Congress voted overwhelmingly to stop funding it.The extra engine is a luxury we simply cannot afford.
