Tim Tebow Fans Rally in Jacksonville, Demand Jaguars Sign Gator Legend

On Monday afternoon, disgruntled Jacksonville Jaguars fans will be rallying at EverBank Fields parking lot demanding the team -- increasingly appearing to be the worst in the National Football League -- sign former Florida Gator quarterback Tim Tebow.

After winning the Heisman Trophy and leading the Gators to the national title, Tebow was drafted by the Denver Broncos and led that team to a playoff run before garnering mixed results since then. Tebow was cut by the New England Patriots at the end of preseason last month after stints with the Broncos and the New York Jets.

The group organizing the rally have a website and a Facebook with more than 400 members.

Tebow is popular on the First Coast after growing up in the area and playing for Nease High School. The group backing the rally is playing up Tebows faith, starting the event at 3:16 p.m. and planning to hold the event for three hours and 16 minutes -- clear references to the famed John 3:16 passage.

Bring your Tebow signs, hats, shirts, whatever you have," the group posted online. Come one, come all and lets show our support. Do your part to bring Tebow to Jacksonville ... this is our team. Show the Jags front office we want Tebow!"

Jags owner Shadid Khan and GM Dave Caldwell have closed the door on signing Tebow despite his fan base on the First Coast.

So far, the Jaguars have shown next to no improvement over last season when they went 2-14, tying with the Kansas City Chiefs for the worst record in the NFL. In their season opener at home, the Jaguars were not competitive with the Chiefs, losing 28-2. Starting quarterback Blaine Gabbert was ineffective against the Chiefs and injured his hand late in the game. On Sunday, the Jaguars were more competitive when they visited California to play the Oakland Raiders but still came up short, 19-9. Chad Henne replaced Gabbert as the starter and proved better despite being sacked five times.
