Tim Tebow Continues to Divide Jaguars Fans on First Coast
The war over Tim Tebow continues on the First Coast.
Despite the returns of Blaine Gabbert as QB and Marcades Lewis at tight end from injuries (though Lewis was reinjured) on Sunday, the Jacksonville Jaguars continue to struggle. The Jaguars, clearly the worst team in the National Football League (NFL), were blown out at home by the Indianapolis Colts, losing 37-3 on Sunday.
While the Jaguars arent getting much attention for their efforts on the field, football fans on the First Coast continue to spar over Tebow who played at Nease High School in the area and played at the University of Florida. Tebow supporters had a plane fly over Everbank Field on Sunday demanding the Jaguars sign the quarterback. Earlier this year, Tebow was cut by the New England Patriots after stints with the Denver Broncos and the New York Jets.
But theres an increasing number of vocal Jaguars fans who dont want Tebow. The Bold City Brigade, some of the staunchest Jaguars fans, have a website up called Even if Hes Released-- repeating a line from new GM Dave Caldwell who has shown no interest in signing Tebow. The site claims more than 587,000 "endorsements" have been made from "real Jaguars fans that don't need Tim Tebow."
The Bold City Brigade and other Jaguars fans in the anti-Tebow camp arent Gabbert fans (or supporters of backup Chad Henne) but hope the team can get a franchise quarterback in next years draft (that worked so well with Gabbert and Byron Leftwich). Still, they might have a point. While there are some exceptions (Fred Taylor comes to mind), there have been more than a few Gators who simply failed when they played with the Jaguars, including high draft picks Reggie Nelson and Derrick Harvey.
Things dont look too promising in the weeks to come as the Jaguars head to St. Louis and then to Denver to take on Peyton Manning and the Broncos who look phenomenal so far this year.
When does the Matthews Bridge reopen in Jacksonville? This Jags fan for one is ready to jump off it as the team goes to 0-4 with none of those losses being remotely competitive.
