Thrasher Goes After Gelber for Backing Obama on Health Care

Republican efforts to hammer Democratic candidates for state office in Florida on national issues continued on Wednesday when Sen. John Thrasher of Jacksonville, the chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, attacked Sen. Dan Gelber of Miami Beach, the Democratic nominee for attorney general, for backing new federal health-care laws supported by President Barack Obama. Thrasher also criticized Gelber for not supporting a legal challenge launched by Attorney General Bill McCollum against the new federal measures.

In refusing to agree to continue the legal effort, in which Florida has been a national leader, to protect our state from this gross infringement on personal liberty and our state sovereignty contained in the Democrats government-run health-care experiment, Dan Gelber has clearly aligned himself with Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Alex Sink and the rest of the ultra-liberal Democrat Washington elite, said Thrasher. The distinction couldnt be clearer. As an 18-year veteran prosecutor, our Republican nominee Pam Bondi is gravely concerned that this health reform bill infringes on the rights of our states sovereignty, as guaranteed by the 10th Amendment of our Constitution. We know that, as attorney general, she will do everything in her power to protect those rights.

Pam Bondi, a former assistant state attorney from Hillsborough County, has made support for McCollums suit one of the cornerstones of her campaign.
