Thad McCotter Makes Last-Minute Pitch for Mitt Romney
U.S. Rep. Thad McCotter of Michigan, who waged a brief campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, weighed in on the current contest -- spearheading a last-minute push for Mitt Romney, who is battling Rick Santorum in what is expected to be a close Michigan primary on Tuesday.
Mitt Romney is not only the best-equipped to defeat President Obama, but he will also be the most effective president in undoing the damage the current administration has sown over the last four years, McCotter wrote in an email to supporters. As a former governor and businessman, Mitt Romney has the skill set necessary to lead an executive administration and the ability to govern -- not legislate.
As Republicans, we know the true value of skillfully managing successful private-sector companies. And we know the extreme level of dysfunction and excess our next president must eliminate from the federal government. We must entrust the office to a man who knows how to manage, who knows how to cut waste, redundancy, and red tape, and who actually knows what a budget is and how to stay on it. We know the consequences if we fail, McCotter added.
While our president celebrates 8.3 percent unemployment, we in Michigan know this is unacceptable and is a direct result of the failures of the current administration to adequately, or even competently, address our countrys economic woes, McCotter continued. We cannot and will not stand idly by and watch our neighbors, friends and loved ones continue without a job and act as if everything is OK. As the only candidate with real private-sector job-growth experience, Mitt Romney is uniquely qualified to create policies to help create jobs in the private sector. He knows economic success cannot be dictated by the federal government. Mitt Romney will finally give our middle class the pro-growth agenda for which it is screaming out.
