Texas Abortion Filibuster Getting More Coverage Than Kermit Gosnell
While reporters "struggled and struggled and struggled" to find any reason to cover abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell's trial, says a Real Clear Politics story on Friday, they certainly are climbing all over an abortion filibuster going on in Texas.
It's a tweetfest.
Texas Sen. Wendy Davis is filibustering a bill that would protect the unborn who had made it to 20 weeks gestation. It would require abortion clinics to meet the standards of other ambulatory surgery centers and would require doctors to have admitting privileges at nearby hospitals.
According to the story: "A sample from Sarah 'local crime' Kliff, health policy reporter at the Washington Post: 'Clear Eyes, Full Heart, Cant Stop Talking. Sarah Kliff (@sarahkliff) June 26, 2013.'
The Texas legislation is the result of increased national awareness of serious problems at abortion clinics around the country, including Gosnells house of horrors and a Texas clinic run by Douglas Karpen. Karpen's horror shop is accused of being even worse than Gosnells, but reporters covering the filibuster have failed so far to make the connection, the story says.
