Teacher Performance Pay Reform Passes House Education Committee
The House Education Committee passed a teacher performance pay reform measure on Thursday, the day the Senate passed a similar bill, setting the stage for what should be a dramatic debate on its merits next week. Last year, the debate over a similar measure, SB 6, which was vetoed by then-Gov. Charlie Crist, lasted until the wee hours of the morning.
Our state has made great strides in the past decade to reform our education system, said Rep. Erik Fresen, R-Miami, who introduced the bill. But now is the time to focus on student-centered reforms that identify, retain, and reward our states best and brightest educators and keep them in Florida classrooms where they can provide a quality education to our children.
Id like to thank the members of this committee for approving the Student Success Act today, said Rep. Bill Proctor, chairman of the committee.By approving this bill, committee members showed their support for grounding teacher evaluations in fair and meaningful performance measures, and significantly improving the education standards by which our states children are taught.
