Tea Party Assails Nelson for Trying to Circumvent Gov. Scott on Train
Refusing to take Gov. Rick Scott's "no" for an answer, Sen. Bill Nelson said he and U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood are discussing a plan to fund the derailed Tampa-Orlando high-speed train without the state governments participation.
We are exploring how we could keep this project going forward since the state of Florida will not participate. We have the lawyers researching it, Nelson related in a news release.
Nelson's gambit brought immediate fire from tea party activist Robin Stublen, who declared:
"Nelson and LaHood have proven once and for all that the high-speed rail project is not about what is good for the state of Florida, but what is good for the Obama administration and the Democratic Party.
"This is nothing more than a political ploy to try to undermine the citizens of Florida who voted against the rail in Hillsboro County and in 2004 removed it from the Florida Constitution. Just like with the unconstitutional health care law, the Democrats are once again forcing their will on the citizens.
"Governor Scott looked at all the information and made a well-informed decision based on the facts. Unfortunately Senator Nelson and Secretary LaHood based their decision on politics and the 2012 elections."
