Tea Parties To Convene At Capitol During Special Session Tuesday
Some 30 tea party groups will meet in Tallahassee on Tuesday as the Legislature convenes its one-day special session.
Calling it the first statewide gathering of tea partiers in Florida, Henry Kelley, head of the Fort Walton Beach Tea Party, said groups will be coming from Tampa, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Gainesville and dozens of small counties throughout the state.
Kelley said more than a dozen legislators also have confirmed as attendees, including state Sens. Don Gaetz, R-Niceville; Greg Evers, R-Milton; John Thrasher, R-Jacksonville; and Mike Fasano, R-New Port Richey.
Additionally, "more than 10" state representatives have confirmed, Kelley said.
"We also have a good indication that (incoming Gov.) Rick Scott will join us," he said.
The meeting is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. in Room 401 of the Senate Office Building.
