Tea Partiers Applaud Gov. Scott's Budget Unveiling in Eustis
Tea party groups are applauding Gov. Rick Scott's budget unveiling, even before the budget is announced.
As first reported by Sunshine State News on Monday, Scott will release his first state budget in Eustis, a small Central Florida town, after meeting with tea party activists there.
The sponsoring group is the Florida Liberty Alliance, a coalition of more than 100 tea party leaders from across the state. The North Lake Tea Party, headed by former congressional candidate Patricia Sullivan, is the local host.
After a noon luncheon with the tea partiers at the Eustis community center, Scott will unveil his budget at 1 p.m. Monday at Ferran Park in downtown Eustis.
While Scott's unconventional move might discommode the Tallahassee-based press corps, Punta Gorda tea party leader Robin Stublen hailed the governor's decision to reach out.
"This is the first time a governor of any state has included the grass-roots in the budget process," Stublen said.
He called the governor's upcoming trip to Lake County "a commitment to not only the tea party movement, but to small-town Florida as well."
