A Taj Mahal at UCF?
What's this? The University of Central Florida, steamed because it can't raise its tuition, is about to roll out a luxury housing complex that includes a Swedish sauna.
Check out the ad for NorthView, a $60 million project set to open in the fall: "The Swedish Sauna and Sky Deck tanning area, complete with a Tiki Hut, provides a spa-like setting for you to unwind from exams and reinvigorate the senses."
Setting back beleaguered parents how much?
An indignant Beth Kassab, writing in Friday's Orlando Sentinel, rightfully asks, "I'm sorry, is UCF offering classes or Caribbean cruises?"
The "South Beach-style environment," claims the project's website, also will include a "resort-style" pool, a sand volleyball court and -- oh, what fun -- a water volleyball court. There's also a high-speed video game room, a fitness center and a life-size chess board.
And, oh, the "apartments": Granite counter tops in the kitchens and bathrooms, a 60-inch flat-screen television, side-by-side refrigerator, walk-in closets, "hardwood-style" flooring. Woo-eee!
Prices to live at NorthView? They'll range from about $3,600 to $3,900 per student per semester. So much for college loan debt.
Honk if you're disturbed.
