Suicide or Honor Killing? Groups Want Tampa Death Investigation Re-Opened

Christian and human-rights activists are calling on Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn to re-open an investigation into the death of a Muslim woman who they believe was the victim of an "honor killing."

Tampa police determined last month that 45-year-old Fatima Abdallah killed herself by repeatedly striking her face against a coffee table and the floor.

"The idea defies logic, belies reality," said Pamela Geller, executive director of the Florida chapter of the American Freedom Defense Initiative/Stop Islamization of America.

Geller and other skeptics plan to rally at 2 p.m. Friday at Lykes Gaslight Park in front of Tampa police headquarters.

Geller will be joined by Robert Spencer, director of Jihad Watch, a program of the David Horowitz Freedom Center; Nonie Darwish, an Egyptian-American human rights activist, founder of Arabs For Israel anddirector of Former Muslims United; and David Caton of the Florida Family Association.

Caton said he conducted an independent investigation of the case, "exposing numerous errors and falsehoods in the Tampa Police Department report."

Buckhorn could not be reached for comment on deadline.
