Strategist: Rick Perry Emerges as the 'Anti-Romney' in Florida

Rick Perry's "Cut, Balance and Grow" economic plan positions him as the "anti"-Mitt Romney in Florida, a Republican strategist said.

"The Perry plan will play very well among Florida GOP primary voters and certainly sets him up as the anti-Romney here in Florida," said Doug Guetzloe.

Noting that Perry's tax proposal allows Americans a choice, while allaying concerns that he might shut down Social Security, the Orlando-based consultant said the Texas governor's plan was assuring to Floridians dependent on the federal program.

"Having Steve Forbes as his campaign economic guru helps give Perry more credibility on the financial end, since Forbes has a commanding presence among pro-growth, economic conservatives," said Guetzloe, who is unaligned with any of the current presidential hopefuls.

Organizationally, Perry has some catching up to do as Romney builds on the campaign team he formed here during his 2008 run. Meantime, Herman Cain, currently leading in the polls, picked up more establishment support Tuesday, with former RPOF Vice Chair Deborah Cox-Roush of Hillsborough County joining the Georgian's campaign.
