Still Waiting for That Times/Herald 'Scoop' on Rubio to Develop
Thanks to an astute (and politically unaffiliated) West Coast reader, we're reminded about the dubious origins of the supposed "investigation" of Marco Rubio in l'affair Jim Greer. I quote:
"We have seen this Rubio-under-'preliminary'-investigation-by-IRS story linger ever since the St. Petersburg Times/Miami Herald put it out there. They put it out in the same story announcing that Greer was being investigated.
"Well, less than two months later, Greer was arrested but we still have heard nothing six months later re Rubio. The Herald never followed up on their story, preferring to let the brand stick to Rubio.
"It is important to point out that ANY other media report (local or national) claiming Rubio is under investigation only cites the one Herald story as its source.Heck, the governor chose his words carefully this weekend when he said, 'I mean, they have their own nominee for the U.S. Senate who's under federalinvestigation, as reported by the media.'
"The Herald's source in the story was an unnamed individual who 'knew about these type of investigations.'Since then, there has been no corroboration by any agency or law enforcement source (named or unnamed).
"My guess is that when someone in the Crist campaign was reached for comment about Greer, they suggested the Rubio story in order to deflect.Of course, the Herald then ran like Forrest Gump."
After all this time, Rubio says he has yet to be contacted or interviewed by any of the investigators in the matter.
