Sticking to His Guns, Dan Gelber Wants 11 Debates with Dave Aronberg in Dem AG Contest

The debate over debates continues between the two candidates battling it out for the Democratic attorney general nomination.

Last week, Sen. Dan Gelber of Miami Beach proposed to Sen. Dave Aronberg to have debates in each one of Floridas 11 media markets. Aronberg shot down the request and said it was a political stunt. He said two debates would be more realistic.

The Gelber camp upped the ante on Monday with the candidate sending Aronberg an e-mail, sticking to his guns -- wanting 11 debates in the next three weeks until the primary.

While you say that hosting a series of debates is a political stunt, I suggested 11 only for the fact that we have that many media markets in our state, wrote Gelber to Aronberg. I believe that our able staff can coordinate and work out the details to host the debate series in every part of the state without hindering our ability to hit the campaign trail.

I believe its very important that voters from Pensacola to Jacksonville, Daytona Beach to Dade City and down to Naples and Fort Lauderdale have an opportunity to hear from us why we are running for attorney general and what distinguishes us as candidates, continued Gelber. And this can best be achieved by hosting debates in every media market.

We have already done one in the Miami-Dade/Broward media market, we have another one scheduled in Tallahassee and an Orlando one is in the works by my team, concluded Gelber. My hope is that with both our staffs coordinating efforts we can make the 11 debates happen.
