Steve Southerland Criticizes Shorter Red Snapper Season in Gulf

The Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council has decided to reduce the window for red snapper season in the Gulf from 40 days to nine days and U.S. Rep. Steve Southerland, R-Fla., is not happy about it.
Todays decision amounts to another slap in the face for our hard-working fishermen and coastal communities, said Southerland on Wednesday. In shrinking our red snapper season to only nine days, it is clear the current management system is being driven by a job-crushing agenda that is focused more on putting fishermen out of business than helping foster economic growth. Its past time that much-needed changes are made to how red snapper is managed in the Gulf of Mexico.
