Steve MacNamara's Tallahassee Reality: It's Symptomatic
There's something about Tallahassee. Any sense of the real world is missing up here.
Take this AP story just out about the man some folks at the Capitol call "Governor MacNamara."
Apparently when Steve MacNamara, Gov. Rick Scott's chief of staff, was working for Senate President Mike Haridopolos in 2010, the Senate gave a no-bid contract to Abraham Uccello for $400,000. Uccello was brought on board at Guess-Who's urging to provide technology consulting? That's right, MacNamara's. Uccello and MacNamara are ... well ... thick as ... good friends can be.
I'm sorry I couldn't reach MacNamara late Friday to ask him about all this.
Apparently, even now Uccello occasionally stays with MacNamara when he's in town. And he has special access to the governor's office -- has a badge so he can walk in and out.
And, you guessed it: The main reason Scott selected Uccello to run a government efficiency task force for so many taxpayer dollars is because MacNamara introduced and recommended him.
We're all pals at the palace here in Tallahassee, or so it seems. And it's less that we think we're getting away with something sleazy than it is we don't see anything wrong with the way we choose to conduct the people's business. It's like the Tallahassee Taj. It's like lobbyists and reporters in cahoots.
Reality. Big problem in Tally.
