State Legislators to See "Waiting for Superman"
Senate President Mike Haridopolos, R-Merrit Island, and other legislators will view a screening of the education reform documentary "Waiting for Superman" at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Tallahassee, followed by a panel discussion.
The movie features the efforts of Michelle Rhee, recently named to head up Gov.-elect Rick Scott's education transition team, to reform the Washington, D.C., school district. Rhee drew fire from teachers' unions and parents for trying to fire underperforming teachers and raise the pay of better teachers. Rhee resigned her position as chancellor of D.C. schools in October after the mayor who backed her lost his re-election bid.
The movie will be screened at Tallahassee's Regal Miracle 5 Cinema. Members of the panel discussion have not yet been announced.
The same movie was screened at the same cinema just before the November election by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as part of a 12-city tour.
