State and Feds Agree on Gulf Spill Claims Process Reforms

State officials, led by Gov. Rick Scott and Attorney General Pam Bondi, have reached an agreement with federal Claims Czar Kenneth Feinberg on reforming the claims process resulting from the oil spill that plagued the Sunshine State last year.

Floridas tourism, fishing and seafood industries are still feeling the impacts of last summers disaster almost a year later, said Scott. Mr. Feinberg agrees that its time to get to work and implement a streamlined, fair and effective way of paying these claims for Floridians.

Look for more staffers, including accountants, in the Sunshine State handling claims -- of which 25 percent should be finished by the end of March.

Hundreds of thousands of Floridians livelihoods have been devastated by the oil spill and compounded by a nearly halted claims process, said Bondi. I look forward to working with Governor Scott and Mr. Feinberg to ensure Floridians receive the compensation they deserve.

Feinberg will be back in Tallahassee come April to update the state government on the process.
