Floridas favorite Republican senator, Marco Rubio, weighed in over the weekend on the countrys history in the second half of the 20th century, ticking off the challenges the United States was able to overcome. He was speaking at the Republican Party of Pinellas Countys Lincoln Day dinner.

Sure, the Soviets beat us into space. And, of course, the civil rights movement challenged our commitment to our nations core values.

And then there was the Carter presidency.

We withstood it all, Rubio said. Even bell bottoms and the Bee-Gees.
