Special Elections Set for Legislative Vacancies

Gov. Charlie Crist set the dates Wednesday for two special elections to be held to fill spots in the Legislature left by resignations.

Former state Sen. Frederica Wilson, D-Miami, resigned her position effective Dec. 31 after being elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in the midterm elections. A primary election is set for Feb. 8 to fill her District 33 seat, with the general election on March 1. Rep. Oscar Braynon II, D-Miami Gardens, has also resigned to run in that race, leaving his District 103 seat in the House open. The primary and general elections for that seat will also be held on Feb. 8 and March 1, respectively.

The 2011 regular legislative session begins March 8.
