Sorry, Boys Town, Bill Nelson Never Gave Your Coin Bill a Chance

Since re-election, Bill Nelson has been doing what Bill Nelson does best: file pointless bills and keep quiet about them, hoping no one will notice.

In December, in the waning days of the 112th Congress, Florida's senior senator introduced as new legislation S 3712, a bill to authorize the minting of a coin in honor of the Centennial of Boys Town. He said he hoped the bill would be considered last Friday.

Last Friday? Why? It's all over for the 112th Congress.

With the Senate focused on the fiscal cliff, did Nelson really and truly think new legislation had a reasonable chance of consideration? Of course not. But now he can tell Boys Town enthusiasts that he introduced the legislation -- called by many "The Bill Nelson Pointless Coin Bill" -- earning points with constituents by leaving out the part where he doomed the legislation to irrelevance.

Six more years. Dear God.
