Social Security Administration Commissioner Headed to Sarasota for Townhall
Acting Social Security Administration Commissioner Carolyn Colvin is headed to Florida this week for a townhall event with U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla.
Buchanan announced on Monday that Colvin will come to Sarasota for the townhall on Thursday.
“I’m pleased that Commissioner Colvin has accepted my invitation to address the residents of Sarasota and Manatee counties,” said Buchanan. “I wanted seniors in our region to have a chance to meet the person who runs one of the most important federal programs in the nation.”
Buchanan noted his district had more than 217,000 Social Security recipients, the second highest in the nation.
“Protecting Social Security is one of my highest priorities,” said Buchanan.“Seniors have worked their entire lives with the promise of a safe retirement and it is vital that we preserve the program for today’s beneficiaries and future generations.”
Buchanan sits on the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee which oversees Social Security.
