With Sink Lagging Against Scott, McCollum Tries Going 0-for-2
Even with a helping hand from Bill McCollum, Alex Sink just can't get past Rick Scott in the governor's race.
Today's CNN/Time poll showed Scott holding a 47-45 lead over his Democratic rival. The Sink camp tried to put on a happy face by pointing out that their candidate leads Scott 46-45 among registered voters, but that's a meaningless number.
First off, polls citing only registered voters are notoriously unreliable, especially in this year of lousy Democratic turnouts.
Second, Sink's lead in that category had dwindled from the 49-42 edge she held just three weeks ago in the same poll.
Third, a single-point advantage among registered voters in a state with a much bigger Democratic edge in registration is nothing for a Democrat to brag about.
Leading among voters most likely to actually cast ballots, Scott appears to be fending off the effects of McCollum, who has sprung to Sink's defense against Scott's ads attacking the CFO's stewardship on the State Board of Administration. Of course, McCollum is simply trying to cover his own political posterior, since he is a fellow trustee on that board.
