She's Green with Envy

Did Charlie Crist have class warfare on his mind when he appointed Adora Obi Nweze "Special Advisor to the Governor on Minority Affairs"?

Whatever our clean, green and politically correct governor was thinking, Nweze appeared to be green with envy as she blasted Florida's energy efficiency program recently. In an oped article, Nweze claimed that the consumer rebates come at the expense of "low-income working-class Floridians."

Attacking solar panels and other energy-saving upgrades, Nweze complained that poor Floridians are getting cut out of the action. (They) are not the source of the problem because they do not own energy-hogging pool pumps, plasma TVs and dont even have air conditioning."

Nweze's broadside seems a bit far afield, considering that her role as "special advisor" is, in Crist's words, "to ensure that my administration is reaching as many of Florida's diverse populations as possible."
After a year on the job, this is her idea of reaching out?
Though Nweze's position is unpaid, according to Crist press secretary Sterling Ivey, it gives her a bully pulpit to expand on her agenda as president of the Florida State Conference of the NAACP.
To avoid similar gaffes, which aren't exactly helping Crist's Senate campaign, the retired Miami teacher, formerly known as Johnnie Raye McMillian, ought to bone up on the facts and get with the program, which costs a mere 18 cents per month per meter charge -- or 20 times less than storm clean-up costs, also approved by the Public Service Commission.
