Shawn Tyson Found Guilty of British Tourists Murders

A 12-member jury in Sarasota quickly found 17-year-old Shawn Tyson guilty Thursday of killing British tourists James Coope and James Kouzaris.

The case drew international attention, primarily from the United Kingdom.

Gov. Rick Scott released the following statement after the verdict was announced:

I was saddened to learn of the deaths of British tourists James Cooper and James Kouzaris last April when they were visiting Florida. Following this tragedy, I talked to their families and continued to monitor the situation closely. While justice prevailed today as the man who took their lives was sentenced to life in prison, my condolences and prayers continue to go to the victims families.
