Sequestration Alert: Obama, Boehner, McConnell Finally Talk
President Barack Obama called Republican congressional leaders on Thursday to discuss the sequestration cuts that both sides have jockeyed to pin on the opposing party.
Obamas conversations with House Speaker John Boehner, of Ohio, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, of Kentucky, weregenerallydescribed as good by the White House, but lips remained sealed about details.
On March 1, the looming cuts are set to become law, resulting in across-the-board cuts to programs in education, defense and public services nationwide. In Florida, a reported 12,000 civilian Air Force jobs and 3,300 civilian Army workers around the state are at risk.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) wasted no time playing politics with the sequestration, as they started targeting GOP members in 27 key districts, including Florida's Bill Young in CD 13, the longest-serving Republican member of the House, and Dan Webster in CD 10, using paid online ads blaming the GOP for "pink slips" that could be sent to Americans nationwide.
