Senate Majority Leader Andy Gardiner Gives Kudos to Gov. Scott for Merit Pay Bill Signing

Senate Majority Leader Andy Gardiner, R-Orlando, praised Gov. Rick Scott for signing Senate Bill 736, the merit pay bill that ties teacher pay to performance and student test scores. He also singled out Sen. Stephen Wise, R-Jacksonville, for plaudits for bringing the bill forward and helping to pass it.

Governor Scotts signature on the Student Success Act sets Florida on its course to reward teachers while working toward providing the best education for students to succeed in the classroom and on the global playing field.

The governor was thoughtful in his gesture to sign this bill in Senator Wises home district. I thank Senator Wise for his tireless commitment to shaping this bill into one that will put students first in Florida and will help attract top-quality educators to our state.

Todays outcome is the result of the combined support from the Senate, House and the governor, and it gives us a promising outlook for Floridas future," Gardiner said.
