Senate Leadership Turns to an Old Hand on Health Care in Rene Garcia

The Senate leadership is hinting that a new member -- who is no stranger to health-care issues by any means --will be leading the charge to take on new federal laws backed by President Barack Obama.
Former Sen. Carey Baker, now a staffer with Senate President Mike Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island, wrote on his Twitter account that Sen. Rene Garcia, R-Hialeah, will probably be the sponsor filing SJR-2, another attempt to forward a proposed constitutional amendment to Florida voters allowing them to opt-out of the new federal laws. Garcia, during his eight years in the House and while a freshman senator, led the Health Care Regulation Committee and the Health Innovation Committee.
