Senate Hopeful David Jolly Showcases Veteran Freedom Card Proposal
Continuing his bid for the U.S. Senate in 2016, U.S. Rep. David Jolly, R-Fla., showcased his Veteran Freedom Card proposal on Monday, launching a national petition in support of his idea.
“The time has come to put the veteran in charge of their health care decisions, not the VA,” Jolly said on Monday. “We should always be grateful to the thousands of Americans, our neighbors, who continue to dedicate their lives to providing for our veterans at local VA facilities. But, because of a broken Washington bureaucracy and big government arrogance, too many veterans are still waiting too long for care or simply going without. And, many die while waiting for care. It’s a national disgrace that dishonors every man and woman who has served our great nation in uniform.
“There are simply too many cases of delayed care, of compromised care,” Jolly added. “Let’s triage this now by giving complete control of health care decisions to the veteran, allowing every veteran unrestricted access to outside care, so that no veteran has to suffer while the VA bureaucracy tries to rid itself of negligence, corruption and abuse. Very simply, under my ‘Veteran Freedom Card’ legislation, if a veteran wants to stay in the VA, they can stay in the VA; but, if a veteran wants to receive care outside of the VA, the veteran has complete authority to do so/
“Please take a moment to sign my ‘Veteran Freedom Card’ petition and let Washington know that real choice and accountability are the only ways to ensure our American heroes get the health care they have earned,” Jolly concluded.
Jolly’s idea is backed in the Senate by U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., while presidential candidate Donald Trump has brought out a similar proposal.
