Sen. Mike Fasano Chides Gov. Rick Scott's Budget on Drug Policy
Sen. Mike Fasano came out against a small portion of Gov. Rick Scott's proposed budget Tuesday, knocking the governor for defunding and eliminating the Prescription Drug Monitoring Program and the Office of Drug Control.
Fasano was instrumental in getting the PDMP up and running two years ago, and Attorney General Pam Bondi and other law enforcement officials praised the program at a press conference last week where they also urged legislators to do more to crackdown on "pill mills."
"It is beyond my comprehension why the governor would propose the total elimination of the two entities that have been and have the potential to be the best tools this state will have in fighting prescription drug abuse," Fasano said.
Fasano also pledged to prevent that item of Scott's budget from being passed.
