State Sen. Nancy Detert, R-Venice, has been reported as a potential replacement for Kurt Browning as Floridas secretary of state.
If Detert, a former mortgage broker, is chosen for the secretary of state post, the effect would ripple across the regions political landscape, the Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported. With an open state Senate seat, current state legislators, county commissioners and others could be interested in taking her spot in the strongly Republican district.
The Tampa Times previously listed Mike Ertel, the supervisor of elections for Seminole County, as a potential replacement for Browning.
Browning submitted his resignation Jan. 11, effective Feb. 17.
