Scott Names Four to 18th Judicial Nominating Commission

Gov. Rick Scott has added Daniel J. Gerber, David P. Gillespie and Judge Clayton D. Simmons while reappointing Philip F. Nohrr to the 18th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission.

Nohrr, Gillespie and Simmons were each on the list of nominees submitted by the Florida Bar.

According to the release from the governor's office:

Nohrr, 68, of Indialantic, is a partner at GrayRobinson PA. He served on the Brevard Community College District Board of Trustees from 1981 to 1989 and on the Brevard County Health Facilities Authority. Nohrr has been a member of the Brevard County Bar Association since 1970 and served on its board of directors for eight years and as past president. He has been a member and former chairman of the 18th Judicial Circuit Grievance Committee, member and former chairman of the 18th Judicial Circuit Scholarship Committee, member of the Florida Bar since 1967 and served on its Ethics Commission. Nohrr served in the United States Army from 1967 to 1969. He received his bachelors degree and law degree from the University of Connecticut. He is reappointed for a term beginning Oct. 19, 2011, and ending July 1, 2014.

Gerber, 48, of Winter Park, is a partner at Rumberger Kirk and Caldwell, where he has practiced law since 1988. He serves on the American Board of Trial Advocates and on the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel. Gerber received a bachelors degree and a law degree from the University of Florida. He succeeds John Jones and is appointed for a term beginning Oct. 19, 2011, and ending July 1, 2015.

Gillespie, 41, of Longwood, is a senior assistant statewide prosecutor in the office of the attorney general, where he has served since 2006. He practiced law at Finkbeiner and Gillespie LLC from 2004 to 2006, served as assistant statewide prosecutor in the office of the attorney general from 2001 to 2004, and served as an assistant state attorney in the office of the state attorney for the 9th Circuit from 1996 to 2001. Gillespie received a bachelors degree from the University of South Florida and a law degree from Stetson University. He succeeds Carsandra Buie and is appointed for a term beginning Oct. 19, 2011, and ending July 1, 2014.

Simmons, 66, of Lake Mary, is an attorney with Bryant Miller Olive. He served as an 18th Judicial Circuit judge from 2003 to 2010, as chief judge from 2007 to 2009. Prior to that, Simmons practiced law with Stenstrom, McIntosh, Colbert, Whigham and Simmons for over 22 years. He has served as city attorney for the city of Lake Mary, college attorney for Seminole State College, assistant school board attorney for the school board of Seminole County, assistant legal counsel for the Seminole County Sheriffs Office, and general counsel for the Sanford Housing Authority. He was on the Lake Mary Zoning Board in 1986 and the Lake Mary Code Enforcement Board in 1987. Simmons served in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1973 and in the United States Air Force Reserve from 1978 to 1995. He received a bachelors degree from Florida State University, a masters degree from Ball State University, and a law degree from Nova Southeastern University. He succeeds Stephen Charpentier and is appointed for a term beginning Oct. 19, 2011, and ending July 1, 2015.
