Scott to Appear Before Lakeland Ledger Editorial Board
Gov. Rick Scott continues his quest to sit down with the editorial board of every daily newspaper in Florida with an appearance at the Lakeland Ledger this afternoon.
The interview is set for one hour starting at 1:45 p.m.
On Monday, Scott appeared before the Daytona Beach News Journal.
Among the topics he discussed were pill mills, TriRail, online taxing, the Florida lottery and education funding, the casino bill, unemployment and the media's view of the governor.
"I would like the media to put more focus on job creation and what we're doing. If I ran a newspaper, what I would say is, 'How do we build our community?' I don't think the media talk enough about why we should do business in Florida," Scott told the News Journal editorial board.
"I lived in Texas for a short period of time. The second day you live there you start bragging about the state. We don't brag enough about our state. We have all these things going for us. I think the media could talk about all the things that we're doing well in the state. We're at a four-year low in our crime rate. We're generating more jobs. ... How many people know that we bucked the national trend in job creation? I'll bet not a big percentage. We need to talk about what we're doing well. I really believe that if I do what I ran (for office) on, we'll be the model for the country because people will need jobs."
