School Lunch Blowup: Now They're Blaming the Teacher
The much-publicized story about school officials seizing a North Carolina girl's homemade lunch and forcing her to eat chicken nuggets instead took a new twist Friday.
Hoke County Schools assistant superintendent Bob Barnes now blames it all on a teacher's "error."
Barnes said the pre-K teacher should have handed the 4-year-old girl a carton of milk to round out her lunchbox meal that contained a turkey-and-cheese sandwich, chips, a banana and juice.
We do not go over and stare down every childs lunch, Barnes said. If you looked at the lunch the child had, Id love to have that lunch today. However, there are occasions that kids bring lunches that arent that complete, and thats why we try to supplement them with the things that they need to make it a complete lunch.
Good thing the little girl wasn't lactose intolerant.
Covering their own posteriors, officials for the U.S. Department of Agriculture said the agency does not regulate sack lunches or any other food children bring from home to eat at school. That is a responsibility for parents, not the federal government."
Does everyone feel better now?
