Saying U.S. Must Choose Between Free Market and Socialism, Marco Rubio Unveils Ideas to Support Capitalism
Former House Speaker Marco Rubio, the likely Republican nominee in the U.S. Senate race, said that America faces a crucial decision between continuing to follow the capitalist system or whether to embrace some form of government control in the economy.
As Americans, we have reached a point in our history when we must decide if we are to continue on the free market, limited government path that has made us exceptional, or if we are prepared to follow the rest of the world down the road of government dependency, said Rubio in a speech in Tampa on Tuesday. It is a clear choice between two very different futures, and I believe the American people are prepared to make the tough, but necessary, choices to ensure future generations enjoy unrivaled levels of job growth, freedom, security and prosperity.
Rubio proposed 23 ideas to grow the economy and clean up the oil spill in the Gulf. He called for cutting taxes -- including making the tax cuts President George W. Bush backed in 2001 and 2003 permanent, repealing new health-care laws backed by President Barack Obama and opposing the Employee Free Choice Act. Rubios proposals can be found at his campaign Web site.
