Sanford Commissioner Defends Chief Bill Lee on FOX News

Sanford Commissioner Patty Mahany defended her rejection of the resignation of Police Chief Bill Lee on FOX News on Wednesday.

The commission declined, in a 3-2 vote, to accept Lees permanent resignation on Monday over his handling of the Feb. 26 shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, 28.

Zimmerman, who has been charged with second-degree murder, has filed a not guilty plea. He contends he acted in self-defense under the states Stand Your Ground law.

Mahany argued that Lee, who has been on temporary leave since March after receiving a vote of no confidence" from the commission, is only guilty of making the unpopular, but legally correct opinion to release Zimmerman.
