Sanford Commission Rejects Police Chief's Resignation, For Now

The Sanford City Commission rejected the resignation of embattled police chief Bill Lee Monday night, with the majority wanting the outcome of an internal investigation to first be completed, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Lee had stepped aside from his duties as chief on March 22 after the majority of the Sanford City Council expressed no confidence"over his handling of the Feb. 26 shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, 28.

Mayor Jeff Triplett, who in March had voted with the majority in expressing "no confidence" in Lee, said he wanted to wait for the city to complete an internal review of the way the police department investigated the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon, the Sentinel reported.
