Sally Bradshaw Resigns from Board of Education
State Board of Education member Sally Bradshaw abruptly resigned from her position over the weekend.
Bradshawsaid in a two-paragraph letter to Gov. Rick Scott on Sunday that family obligations would prevent her from serving out the remainder of her term, which was set to end in December.
I appreciate your efforts to ensure that Floridas K-12 system continues to lead the nation in reform and accountability, she wrote. The resignation was effective immediately.
Bradshaw was appointed to the Board of Education by Scott in 2011. She was achief of staff under former Gov. Jeb Bush and has been critical over the boards direction in recent months on school grades and the controversial Common Core State Standards.
In July, she voted against continuing a safety net that prevented schools from falling more than one letter grade this year.
There's no word yet on who will replace Bradshaw. Scott will have to appoint three new members to the board this year, as Kathleen Shanahan and Barbara Feingold's terms both expire at the end of the year.
Members of the boardare appointed by the governor and subject to confirmation by the state Senate.
