Rubio Team Attacks Crist for Reconsidering No-Attack Pledge
With four polls, including one from Sunshine State News, showing Gov. Charlie Crist, who is running for the U.S. Senate without party affiliation, trailing front-runner Marco Rubio, the Republican candidate, by double digits, the governor said at a Thursday meeting with staff from the Miami Herald that his campaign may go on the attack -- but vowed it would only be accurate ones.
This promptly led to a sharp reply from the Rubio camp who reminded voters that Crist vowed not to go on the attack in spring.
With his poll numbers dropping and a record of higher unemployment, failed stimulus, increased taxes and continuous flip-flops, Charlie Crist is breaking his pledge to run a positive campaign and refusing to swear off negative attacks, said Alex Burgos, a spokesman for Rubio. Floridians are looking for a candidate they can trust to go to Washington and provide an alternative to the direction say-and-do-anything politicians are taking our country. They dont want just another politician who breaks their pledges depending on their poll numbers.
