Rubio Comments on National Unemployment Numbers to Blast Big Government, Obama, Crist and Meek

Former House Speaker Marco Rubio, the leading Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate, weighed in on the numbers showing the national unemployment rate has gone down to 9.7 percent. Rubio does not think the numbers prove much solace for the economy due to increased government spending, even saying that the job growth is the result of public sector jobs.

"The fact that more Americans are working and receiving paychecks is always positive news, but we should not be fooled into comfort given that much of the job creation stems from temporary Census jobs that will be short-lived," said Rubio.

Rubio blasted his opponents in the race, namely U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek and Gov. Charlie Crist for backing President Barack Obama's economic policies, which the Republican maintains hurt job growth.

"Aided by Congressman Meek and Gov. Crist, Washington's leadership has undermined our free market system through unbridled, wasteful spending on a big government agenda that has failed to create the jobs promised while exploding our debt," said Rubio. "This government expansion isn't cheap and it's resulted in America dangerously borrowing money we simply don't have to the tune of adding an average of $4.9 billion to the debt each day of the Obama administration."

"Congressman Meek and Gov. Crist have not been the least bit bothered by this dangerous direction and would only rubber-stamp more of the same if given the chance," added Rubio. "Floridians deserve leaders they can trust to stand up to the further growth of government that is fueled by out-of-control spending that future generations will bear the burden for."
