RPOF Piles on Charlie Crist for Calling Special Session
The Republican Party of Florida took a shot atits former standard bearer Gov. Charlie Crist --who left the GOP to continue his campaign for the U.S. Senate seat to run without party affiliation. The RPOF sent out a release linking to the Web video released on Monday by former House Speaker Marco Rubio, the likely Republican candidate in the race, trashing Crist for calling a special session of the Legislature for political purposes.
In a time when Floridians are looking for answers and leadership from the governor, Charlie Crist has instead turned to a shameless and expensive election-year public-relations stunt by calling for a special session to put a constitutional amendment on the ballot that already exists in Florida law, said Ronnie Whitaker, the executive director of the RPOF.
The governors self-serving actions are so transparent that he should strongly consider funding this $120,000 campaign event from his U.S. Senate coffer, rather than expecting Florida taxpayers to foot the bill, added Whitaker.
