RPOF Goes After Charlie Crist for Backing Ground Zero Mosque

There have been few politicians in Florida who backed President Barack Obamas support of a mosque being built two blocks away from Ground Zero in downtown Manhattan. Even Democrats like state CFO Alex Sink and U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Greene have broken with the president -- and they have been joined at the national level by U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

One of the few politicians in Florida who backed the president was Gov. Charlie Crist, who is running without party affiliation in the U.S. Senate election. In an interview on CNN on Saturday, Crist supported the president in applauding the construction.

"We are a country, in my view, that stands for freedom of religion, said Crist. You know, respect for others. I know there are sensitivities and I understand that, but I think Mayor Bloomberg is right and I think the president is right."

The Republican Party of Florida sent out a release on Monday, attacking Crist for continually backing Obama.

First a failed stimulus package, then a government takeover of our health care system, now a mosque near a site where 3,000 Americans perished at the hands of Islamic extremists in the worst attack on U.S. soil in our nations history, said Ronnie Whitaker, executive director of the RPOF. How can Floridians trust Charlie Crist to represent them in Washington when hes surpassed even the Democrat Senate majority leader in his endorsement of Barack Obamas far-left liberal agenda?
