RPOF Chairman John Thrasher Takes a Side -- and It's Not for Rick Scott

Clearly, there's no love lost between the Republican Party of Florida and gubernatorial candidate Rick Scott.

RPOF Chairman John Thrasher issued a stinging e-mail Sunday evening, accusing Scott of orchestrating "a multifaceted campaign of misinformation in an effort to mislead Florida voters and confuse the facts surrounding the arrest and indictment of Jim Greer as well as the partys financial situation and preparedness to support our candidates as we move toward the November election."

Over the weekend, Scott ramped up his assaults on rival Bill McCollum, alleging that the attorney general was sopping up party campaign funds at the expense of other candidates. In full-page ads, Scott also hammered away at links between McCollum and disgraced party boss Jim Greer.

Thrasher said McCollum "acted swiftly" in referring the party's investigative findings "to the proper authorities" and excoriated Scott for not joining "every other statewide candidate in our efforts to fund-raise for the Florida Victory 2010 effort."

Perhaps Scott had it coming. Or maybe Scott had legitimate concerns about the RPOF's money trail. But Thrasher's late attack on a fellow Republican pretty much proves Scott's point about the party's bias in this primary.

If McCollum wins the gubernatorial nomination, Thrasher will want to hold onto his Greer-McCollum talking points. No doubt, he'll need them again in the fall campaign when Democrat Alex Sink is sure to raise the issue again.

If Scott wins Tuesday, will Thrasher & Co. work for the party's nominee or just sit on their hands and pout?
