Ron Paul Group Continues to Attack Marco Rubio on National ID
The elbow throwing has already begun between Republican hopefuls looking to run for president in 2016. In the second time in as many days, the Campaign for Liberty, which is chaired by former Texas Congressman Ron Paul, attacked U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., for voting against an amendment from a possible 2016 rival -- U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., the son of the groups chairman.
Senator Pauls amendment would have prohibited the creation of any invasive biometric identification system for use in a National ID system, John Tate, the president of the Campaign for Liberty, wrote in an email sent out to supporters on Friday. While urging the passage of his amendment, Senator Paul reminded his colleagues, Most Second Amendment supporters rightly see universal background checks as a step too far in invading citizens personal business. Any National ID, biometric or otherwise, raises the same constitutional concerns.
Tate encouraged supporters to call Rubio to demand he vote against a National ID system on all future votes -- including final passage of the larger immigration bill.
