Ron Paul Group Accuses House Leadership of Backing National ID

A group affiliated with former Congressman Ron Paul is warning that House Republicans could be supporting legislation imposing a national ID card. John Tate, the president of the Campaign for Liberty which Paul chairs, sent out a message to supporters on Tuesday to sound the alarm.

Like the monster in a bad horror movie, the national ID scheme refuses to stay dead, Tate wrote. Tate added that while pundits thought the national ID creation -- which he insisted was included in the immigration reform bill which passed the Senate at the end of June -- had no chance of passing the Republican-controlled House, he was not so optimistic. Like mad scientists, Speaker John Boehner, Majority Leader Eric Cantor, and House Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte are working to revive the national ID scheme.

The Campaign for Liberty is building support -- "No National ID/No Database Directive -- in their efforts to urge Congress not to create a national ID.
