Ron DeSantis Cheers Florida's Sanctions on Iran

Running for the Republican nod to replace U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., in 2016, U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., cheered Florida’s sanctions against Iran on Tuesday.

DeSantis wrote Gov. Rick Scott and the leaders of the Florida Legislature, praised the Legislature for keeping sanctions on Iran even as President Barack Obama has made a deal with that nation over its nuclear program.

"The Obama-Kerry deal with Iran is dangerous for America's national security but it is not binding law,” DeSantis said. “State-based sanctions such as those enacted in Florida cannot be overridden by this executive agreement and therefore serve a critical role in protecting the security of the American people.  I commend Florida and other states that have enacted these policies."
