Romney and Cain in Close Contest to Lead GOP 2012 Field
A national ABC/Washington Post poll released on Friday found that former Gov. Mitt Romney and businessman Herman Cain are locked in a tight struggle to lead the pack of hopefuls running for the Republican presidential nomination.
Romney edges Cain by a whisker, taking 24 percent with the businessman right behind him with 23 percent. Gov. Rick Perry of Texas takes third with 13 percent with former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich right on his heels with 12 percent. U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas takes fifth with 8 percent followed by another member of Congress -- U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota -- with 4 percent. Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania and former Gov. Jon Huntsman of Utah lag behind with 1 percent each.
The ABC News/Washington Post poll of 438 voters leaning toward voting in the Republican primaries was taken from Oct. 31-Nov. 3 and had a margin of error of +/- 5.5 percent.
